The Savage Soundbite Galley
Powered by the RPR-X340, the ultimate in radio recording technology! Whatever your persuasion, if you're a Savage listener, you've gotta have one! I tried buying a stereo cassette recorder and tape recording shows. It was a total bust - if I wasn't actively listening, the tape would run out, and I'd miss part of the show; the tapes were a hassle to rewind and listen to, and I kept on forgetting to actually tape the shows in the first place. This thing, just like the ads say, is like a VCR for your radio. Program it once, and then hit the play button when you've got time to listen. Tivo for the radio is more like it. :) Super neat. Took only a few minutes to figure out how to set it up and get it working, and the next day, I had my show auto-recorded while I was out and about, and was able to download it to my PC in minutes and begin gathering the samples for this page. Note: the included Digital Voice Editor software from Sony is easy to use, but for my purposes, the editing capabilities were just way too limited, so I went out on the net and found a WAV editor (it also converts WAV files to MP3s), called Aldo's WAVEdit (version 1.2), from the Aldo's Tools web site. It is free, simple, and does the job just fine. Excerpts by Date of ShowA collection of crazed comments and notable quotables from the SavageMeister. I don't promise to pull items from every show, but if I hear anything especially quotable, I'll be sure to capture and post it. Note: these samples are all short and are made available under the "fair use" provision of United States copyright law, for the purpose of furthering public debate and education.
Selections by ThemeAs I've only got three shows recorded so far (and haven't excerpted the Oct. 7th show yet), these are obviously somewhat limited. They should improve in comprehensiveness over time.
Help Us Out
It takes 8 AAA batteries a month to record each show and sample it (one set every week or so). Please donate $20.00 to cover the cost of a year's supply of Alkaline AAA batteries from CheapBatteries.com.
Note: this is my first venture into digital sound editing, and so, hopefully, the sound quality will go up over time. I've picked the lowest quality sampling rate, to save bandwidth, so you will hear some minor distortion due to the process of conversion from the compressed proprietary Sony format, to 11/8 bit WAV, to compressed MP3 (files are 8 bit mono, and play back at ~20 kpbs). It appears that Windows Media player cuts off the last three seconds of every file (so don't use it), and that sometimes the RealOne player cuts off the last two seconds... still trying to figure out why, but my apologies. While I figure that out, I've made available the higher bandwidth WAV source files -- WAV version --, which are about 8 times as large on average.
